There are problems with how psychiatry is practiced in the US but they are very complicated. One of them is when this bureaucracy is used as a political weapon which is common in societies which are becoming less and less based on laws. This was common in Nazi Germany where Nazi officials could just say that their enemies were mentally ill and put these people in the nut house. Stalin did this quite a bit as did Communist China.

Our problem seems more one of incompetence, the reliance on drugs rather than therapy, poor training of psychiatrists, drug company profits, etc.
