Any insurance is scheme, unless you hire lawyer to interpret the fine print you get screwed. There underlining find print gets them out of paying you. When the federal government makes insurance mandatory, then they should control it, control rates, and fine print. Health insurance good example, IMO it you have any health insurance it should be accepted anywhere in United States. But, due to lobbist and payments under the table to politicians this what we get. They can chose what insurance they want to accept. Basilly insurances is big legal racketeering scheme written by lawyers passed by politicians from under the table pay offers, that how they go to Washington poor and come out years later mult-millionaires.
As for life insurance, once you become old enough and have whole life policies the insurance hit you with the new policy scheme, which may get you some cash in hand now and the fine print screws you later (prudential got in big trouble few years ago screwing people with this scheme) they greased politicians and changed the rule so you get screwed.
