Just got my Phantom 3 Standard from Newegg last week, they had a deal on refurbished units for $314 vs the normal $499, was too good to pass up. Today (only) they have a refurbished Phantom 3 Professional 4K model for $549, a great buy.

I've only taken a few flights so far, over Evans Prairie and Mangrove golf courses but I'm truly impressed the ease of flying and the picture quality of even the basic 2.7K camera on the 3S. At 400 ft the views of The Villages are amazing, but flying that high the 3S is but a spec in the sky and a little unnerving thinking how much money is hovering up there and waiting to fall or fly away on its own.

The smart move is definitely to learn to fly on a less expensive unit and then move up after you mastered the basics. I started with a Cheer Wing CW4 my wife gave me for Christmas this year. A few rough landings and takeoffs and of course a couple of conversations with trees in the neighborhood taught me a lot of lessons on how to fly. All the lessons carry over to the move advanced drones.

Tip - your telescopic ball retriever is great for getting a drone out of palm trees.
