People who speak in absolutes usually appear to me as unintelligent dolts with a poor grasp of the English language. A person doesn't need to engage in Bayesian probabilistic reasoning to arrive at every single belief (in fact, it's too slow and mentally taxing to do so). But it doesn't take a genius to recognize the fact that there are very few self-evident propositions (in fact, one could intelligibly argue, "we probably don't know anything with 100% certainty - including this very assertion, of course).
It just chafes me the wrong way when people speak absolutes and actually believe the statements coming from their lips. I've heard multiple people state (and try to seriously argue) that all generalizations are false.
On the other hand, I have no problem if a person is speaking in absolutes in a joking manner.
