For years I fought the concept of alternatives to incandescent bulbs. As I watched my electric bill escalate (in Tampa) over the years, I gave in to my son's suggestion that I replace the large number of fluorescent bulbs in my kitchen/family room with new fixtures using LED bulbs. Being homebound, I keep them on all day. I also put LEDs in virtually all of my table lamps except for a couple that use 3-way bulbs.
I've knocked a couple of hundred dollars off of my electric bill every month.
Of course putting an LED bulb in your front yard lamp probably will make no noticeable difference in your electric bill, but at least you should feel better knowing that the LED bulb is costing next to nothing to run for the extra two hours.
