I do agree with you that Trump should back off tweeting because he is only feeding his opponents. I am from that generation that saw the benefits of "reticence" .
So far there has been only innuendo about Trump's connection to Russians. if innuendo proves to be fact and if fact provides to be criminal intent then again no one is above the law.
