We basically did the same thing. My husband wanted to retire in Florida so I told him if he could handle 10 nights in July heat, we could consider moving from CA to FL. We had a THREE year plan for retirement. We visiting in July 2014 and fell in love with the place. I am hoping wherever you are renting comes with a good golf cart. A golf cart is a MUST.. the best way to experience the Villages. Long story short, we rented in July '14, went home thinking a TWO year plan instead of three... bought a villa in August '14! I moved here in September, husband retired Feb '15 and then we moved the rest of our stuff from CA to here. Summers are hot and humid but we just plan around it. There are always the community pools to cool off in however we did have a pool put in. LOVE this place, the squares for the evening entertainment are a must (Rocky & the Rollers are one of my favs). Talk to people, ask questions, enjoy the experience and WELCOME!
