I got my Florida concealed permit in 2012 and there were 900,000 permits in Florida at that time and 19 million people, so roughly 1 in every 20 people had a concealed weapon. I just searched and found there is now 1.7 million concealed permits in Florida and population is at 21 million, so that makes about 1 in every 13 people have a concealed weapon.

I always said that's why you don't see those mass shootings in Florida because so many of the citizens are armed, they always pick states that have strict gun laws like California, Connecticut, New York, etc. The one time there was a mass shooting in Florida was at the Pulse nightclub, a bar or nightclub which is one of the places you're not allowed to take your concealed weapon. Had it been a mall or the square, might of been a different outcome, but that's the way most of those shooters are, they pick innocent unarmed civilians.

You now can get all your paperwork, fingerprints, photos and application done in one place if you live in Sumter County. In the Gold Dome building on Powell Rd next to Pinellas Plaza, but you'll need an appointment. Here's a link for the details. As someone already posted, if you have a DD214 for military service you can skip the classroom.
