One of the pillars of the Republican platform is STATES RIGHTS, and, constitutionally, elections are a right of each state. Therefore, the Federal government has NO standing when asking for, or demanding, ANY voter information from the indivdual states.
So, if you are Republican, you should be questioning why a Republican president, which is supported by a Republican Congress, is asking something that is totally AGAINST the viewpoints of Republicans.

I am a big supporter of the 10th Amendment. So I am pleased to see your concern here. Will you support medicaid block grants to states so that we can move forward with the repeal and replacement of OBAMACARE?
Will you push back against the federal governments expansion efforts?
The founders created the federal government to serve the states in three general areas Defense, Treasury, Commerce..and here we are with a federal budget that is primarily allotted to entitlements. Do we really need the Departments of Education, Energy, Housing? Should the Departments of Agriculture, Environment be monoliths? You get my point and I hope you get behind the 10th Amendment.
