I now understand why I was confused. The law was not signed until Feb. 24, 2016, long after I left law enforcement.
Yes, the violation is a misdemeanor. But that is still quite a risk. "A violation of this law is a first degree misdemeanor
punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine." -- FS 790.15
