This proposal has NOTHING to do with the requirements of changing the requirements to become a citizen, it is ONLY changes the requirements to get a green card to enter the country.
How many early immigrants, do you think already knew English when they first came here...versus learning it as a goal of becoming a naturalized citizen?  |
With that said, what is the problem with this change? Personally, I cannot imagine immigrating to another country without first knowing the language, maybe not fluently but at least enough for basic communication purposes. Seems to me that if you haven't even attempted to learn that, it doesn't show much initiative and certainly not much of a desire to be a part of the culture.
