One of the librarians I admired at East Lake Community Library-- a Director that went onto the public library system in TN-- used to say that a public library was like a caterpillar with its many volunteers, staff, community connections and other people acting as its legs.

Some of the East Lake Community Library Directors were nice people; some not so much. They seemed to have quite a large turnover rate there.
