If you have some valleys in your roof, you may get a pretty good "river" coming off them. In that case, gutters would be beneficial. Also, you might see "drip lines" in the ground along the side of your house with time. Needed - no. Beneficial - maybe, depending on your house. I could see a benefit after the first week in the house. I have the down spouts routed into "pop-ups" in the lawn.
