1. Individuals who feel that they "identify" with a sex other than that shown by their DNA and sexual organs are said to be experiencing "gender dysphoria," a psychiatric term listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as a mental illness.
2. A male who chooses to have his sexual organ surgically removed, and perhaps have breast implants, along with hormone therapy to develop feminine characteristics, does not become a female.
3. A female who chooses to have her breasts surgically removed, a complete hysterectomy, a surgically implanted muscle mimicking the male sexual organ, and hormone therapy to attain male characteristics, does not become a male.
4. It is ridiculous that there are now laws that provide for having someone change their birth certificate to reflect a sex that they "identify" with rather than what their DNA indicates.
5. Although I am not a Catholic, I had occasion to do some reading in a Catholic Catechism and I came across this entry, which I agree with:
"2333 Everyone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity. Physical, moral, and spiritual difference and complementarity are oriented toward the goods of marriage and the flourishing of family life. The harmony of the couple and of society depends in part on the way in which the complementarity, needs, and mutual support between the sexes are lived out."
6. All of the foregoing leads me to my belief that accepting "transgender" individuals into our military services should be avoided. This ban would not necessarily include people experiencing gender dysphoria, provided that it is understood that at no time during the period of active service, or after separation, will government funds be spent to provide transgender surgery of any kind.
7. My views are perhaps not politically correct, but they are heartfelt, genuine, and held without rancor towards people struggling with gender dysphoria.

Let me start by saying that there are two types of empathy cognitive and emotional. I lean toward the former recognizing people suffer . It is in the remedies if any that create the difference. People who identify with emotional empathy go way over board in their decision making the operative word being "emotional"
For example the left in their desire to protect people with mental illness have written laws so that even the family cannot help an individual in crises ( loss of logical thinking, etc) unless that individual grants permission. In their attempt to protect they also harm because by law they place families in a Catch 22.
Politics caused the publishers of the DSM to remove homosexuality as a disorder in the 1980's . A guy with a foot fetish has a disorder but not a guy....
Your explanation concerning transgender is as I understand it. I have read more than one account from different prominent psychiatrist that trans gender people that have surgery come to regret their decision. These same psychiatrist cringe at the news that parents of young children who are actually encouraging these kids in this fantasy.
The decision to allow trans gender goes against the grain. If a person says I identify as Napoleon is that a guy you want holding a gun to protect this nation? A thinking person says this guy needs counseling not military service. its harsh but its life Yet a guy is having emotional trauma about his sexual identity.
I served in the military and at that time homosexuals were discharged. We had three in our barracks and it made for bad chemistry. further I have seen guys crack in boot camp and on the job because they cannot handle the discipline that military life demands.
Obama's decision to use the military as his social lab experiment is dangerous . People like Obama ignore or are unaware of the importance of a cohesive and disciplined group........
the military is volunteers only and as such they are for all intent and purposes mercenaries. so you need to pay them fairly well or you will lose them. Hence budget is critical and so we come to the pivotal decision of where to place financial resources and transgender surgery doesn't seem to be a priority
The military is losing people for number of reasons and so Obama's social lab expedient just gives good men reason to choose another occupation. the military won't admit it but because of this fact they have lowered there standards to an unacceptable level.
The Don't Ask, Don't Tell Rule was the best compromise. However in my opinion we should return to conscription because it allows us to draw from a cross section and also it addresses another concern of mine and that far too many young people have no skin in the game .
