We do it ourselves but based on my experience it needs to be done more often then once a month. A weed is just a plant in the wrong place. In a month, many of the plants you will want to remove will have already grown quite large and might have even gone to seed.

You will find endless debate about mulch vs stone vs??????
If, you put down stone you will usually use weed block cloth below it. Like everything else it works SOMEWHAT.
It will keep down SOME weeds but those that do get through will be a real problem to remove.

We have pine straw and one of those old long handled cultivator rakes works great. You want to either buy one with 3 prongs on it or if you get the far more common one with four prongs you want to cut off the two outside prongs making it two prong. The plant roots are shallow so you want to cut the prongs off at about two inches-they are normally about 6 inches long. It takes about half an hour to forty-five minutes to do the entire job.

Someone else mentioned PREEN and as they said it is partially effective. Actually, a lot of what we call weeds is your lawn trying to fill any bare spot-your plant beds.
Since, the weed in your bed is connected to your lawn anything that will kill it will also kill your lawn.

HAPPY WEEDING-and be thankful you are not doing it full time-with customers telling you you missed one weed last week. In one week there will be new ones
