States with ports and port cities TRANSFER "import tax and tariff money" as a pass through. It's like owning property that happens to have gas/oil under it. You lucked out resource wise...coastal states "lucked out" with ports.

When it comes to actual "health of the state", the red states are doing much better. What usually makes a blue state...blue...is the HUGE minority majority urban population. A large city can cancel out the rest of the state.
