It seems to me the real issue is education. When the Constitution was written, the nation was in danger of being invaded by England, and we had no standing army. Therefore the FIRST part of the Second Amendment clearly states "In order to form a well regulated militia"...citizens could arm themselves to defend the nation against invasion. So, if you are a member of a "well regulated" militia you have the right to own a gun. Otherwise, not so much.
