I'll answer your hypothetical. If that happened then America would move toward a one party oligarchy with shades of fascism. We would give up freedom of speech and freedom of press, and who knows what other parts of the Bill of Rights. We would only have FOX News as our state media outlet and official outlet of government propaganda. The America that conservatives claim to love would exist not more.

How conservatives treat the mainstream media is evident in the Fox response to the Weinstein scandal. Fox is outraged that the mainstream media "covered up" for Weinstein for years. RNC spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany called out NBC on Hannity: “I just have to say Sean, this is sick,” she said. “This is the media elite covering for the Hollywood elite.” But she wouldn’t know the story save for liberal media elites in L.A. and New York City! The right wing is quick to charge the "liberal" media, but none of them broke the story. Unfortunately, it seems conservatives are blind to hypocrisy in all its forms. You have only to note the evangelicals who support a man who steals from kids with cancer, rips off his workers (to the tune of 4,000 lawsuits) boasts in the press about his many adulterous affairs, and is currently married to a woman whom the world snickers at behind our backs as they Google "Melania Trump nude lesbian photos".
