We also brought one car down towed behind a U-Haul truck, and would not do that again, even with three drivers this was a miserable trip.
Hopes this helps.
We've taken the Autotrain twice. First time was one-way in April 2011 going north and it was $901 with a Chevy Lumina and 2 seniors. Second time was round-trip in August 2013, that was $750 total with a Mazda. So you can see the rates vary with the seasonal months.

I just did a sample, 2 seniors, one way southbound, with a standard size car on Wednesday Nov 15, and it was $528. That was for 2 seats, which is what we've done, but you can get a small sleeper for about $300 more, it's really not a compartment but curtains you pull around your seat which will lay flat. The trains leave out at 4pm everyday, one from Lorton, VA and the other from Sanford, FL. Sanford is about a 75 minute drive east of TV using US 441 and CR 46.

Lorton is on I-95 about one exit south of the DC beltway. The trains will pull into the stations about 9:30 the next morning at each end. You'll get dinner and breakfast on the train. The arrival time is sometimes skewd, my last trip down the train hit two people on the tracks in Palatka, FL (an hour before Sanford) and then we didn't arrive until about 1:00, 3-1/2 hours late.
