I believe you should be skeptical of what you are reading. Today's navigation systems are pretty darn intelligent packaged with many fail-safe systems. Think about it - we are on the verge of driver less cars. This is the US navy we are talking about. These people are no slouches at software development. All four of these ships are missile launchers. I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that the personnel on these ships are either neglectful of duty or ineptly trained.
