Most of the Washington establishment, both Democrats and Republicans want to maintain the status quo. They will cross party lines and unite to fight against anything that threatens to upset the way things have been done in Washington for the past 100 years. Trump is a huge threat to this and members of both parties will fight against him.
Republicans have to be much more careful and insidious when going against the president because they risk losing in their re-election campaigns if they lose the Trump supporters in their constituency, but they will do what they can to defeat him while attempting to look like they support him.
Nothing in our government is as it appears. Don't be fooled by Democrats vs. Republicans. That is all for show and although each would prefer to have members of their own party elected, they all would rather have someone that plays the Washington game than someone of their own party that doesn't.
The president is not only fighting the Democrats who can openly oppose him, but he's also fighting members of his own party who say one thing and do another.
President Trump is a threat to the swamp. All of the denizens of the swamp will work to oust him.
