Most people are unaware of the Everson vs. Board Supreme Court decision, which is critical to that part of the First Amendment regarding religion's place in the US. I've heard many Christians with a complete misunderstanding of this.

The Everson vs. Board (unanimous) decision makes it clear that there is, in fact, a "Wall of Separation" between church and state. Therefore, it is completely unlawful to lead prayer on public grounds, in public schools, in fact, any taxpayer facility. Roy Moore with his Ten Commandments statue at the courthouse, was in violation of the First Amendment and got bounced out of his job because of it.

I'm not exactly sure about those "prayer groups" that Trump and Pence were showing off at the White House, because that seems to be a private (ha, ha, with the press on site) gathering.
