However, that won't save the animals that go into our tax funded shelter. Because of the "partnership", which also isn't a partnership, only the Humane Society gets to pick and choose what pets get to be let out of Animal Services and to who.
So, as you can see, that doesn't work as well as it would appear.
Also, we would like our Tax Paid shelter to do what it's supposed to do.
I would ask you to go to Sumter County Shelter, and then go to Lake County Shelter and see that shelter. Not only are the pets happier, so are the employees. There are volunteers all over, people checking out the pets and volunteers with the pets. It's fun to watch and a nice afternoon.
We happen to go there yesterday... Sunday, to take blankets They were bustling. I met several of the volunteers, the employees were helping people pick out pets and find their lost pets. We, the residents of Sumter County would like to have a shelter like that. We have the money and volunteers would save the county over $200,000 a year.
As I've told you before, the other counties have to take the burden of our pets as people are taking them to Lake and Marion to save them. This just isn't fair to those counties.
We are also asking for transparency from our county. We want to know where our tax dollars are going. We also want our shelter to follow the Florida Statutes.
Do you understand they are under investigation for not following Florida Statutes? Our tax dollars are having to pay for that as well.
In the meantime, I will do everything I can do to keep our pets out of our High Kill Shelter.
