Default Re: Removing hat during playing of our National Anthem

Once it became "acceptable," I have taken advantage of my former military status and now salute rather than place my hand over my heart, for the National Anthem as well as The Pledge of Allegiance.

I still get questionning glances from those around me, but I think most Villagers understand!

I was in Washington, DC, recently and visited our Memorials there. I was really upset at the lack of respect shown at all of them. Being more or less of an age that the WWII memorial was the most significant, I was most distressed that even younger adults did not show what I believe would be suitable respect.

There was slightly more reverence at the Vietnam Memorial, but I'd still call it inadequate!

Bottom line: the kids (i.e., any one under 50) today don't get taught about reverence!
