Thumbs up Local News. Cover. Villages Daily Sun Article "Libraries Transform To Begin New Year"

This article in today's Villages Daily Sun is by Ethan Palmer and mainly talks about the Sumter County Library. I did see a female reporter from Villages Daily Sun feeding the pig by putting the food between her teeth that they had at the Lady Lake Public Library on their Facebook page which I am often on looking at their programs and the like. The Ethan Palmer article also mentions the pig.

The reporter does mention Hoopla at Sumter Library System where you can sign up for borrow full length albums, movies, e-books, comics, etc. https://www.hoopladigital.com/

The library system I use-- Lake County Library System-- has some useful foreign language online instruction. Online Reference Databases Pronunciator | The world's largest language-learning service -- with live teachers.

Sumter Library System has Mango for learning languages. Online language learning for organizations and individuals.

The library in Palm Harbor, Florida where I used to live I think let kids check out stuffed animals and adults check out tools. My memory is fuzzy though as I used to frequent about a dozen libraries in the Tampa Bay area. Find Your Local Tool Lending Library http://inalj.com/?p=40570

They do report that library use statistics are down quite a bit. Sumter County's are down 24 % since 2012. But total circulation up 98% according to Library Single Administrative Head Leslie Smith.

They do not cover Marion County Library system in this story. http://www.marioncountyfl.org/depart...library-system

Take a look at The Villages Daily Sun article today and then check out what your library might have for you. I use it mainly for DVDs of various movies but they have Blu-Rays as well. And putting holds on high demand popular books saves me some money from buying books.

Mr. Palmer covers the Mark Twain Library as well. They had 34,000 visitors last year at their "volunteer-based" library.

Thanks to the Villages Daily Sun staff for thinking about libraries and their role in the community.
