It is not feasible to have a bird and a cat in the same home, unless you know for sure that the cat will not want to get at the bird. I know this from personal experience. We had to build the Great Wall of Condo in Michigan when our son and DIL moved back from NY and stayed in the lower level of our condo with their three cats, to keep the curious kitties from the Cockatiel. Cats are escape artists. That condo was on three levels. I can't imagine the difficulty of separating the pets in a single-story home.

Putting a bird away in another room is not a good option. Birds, especially parrots, need to stay socialized. We did it for four days once, to keep the bird safe from a toddler and vice versa (wouldn't want her to pull the cage over on herself). The bird was not a happy camper. And it was hard to remember to keep the bedroom door closed.

I hope you find a solution.
