This is a nice DIY project, especially if your house has switched receptacles above the cabinets. If not, the newer kits have remote controls that provide on/off and dimming capability, and if you get colored LEDs, then you can have almost any color you want. I did this myself, both under cabinet and over cabinet, and inside the cabinet with the glass doors.
If you DIY, make sure the wood is good and clean (I use soap and water, dry, and then go over with alcohol, before applying the self stick LED strips. I also solder all connections, as I have had problems and know of neighbors with problems using the crimp connections, although these seem to have improved a lot lately.
Also, if you install the strip LEDs you will not have any shadows on the counter top.
