I used the autotrain a couple of times when our son was attending college in FL. Needed to get his car back and forth. As the other poster says it beats the extra driving..at least for me. Some people don't mind long distance driving but I find it a bit mind numbing..not to mention other parts of the body. We used the coach car. Getting a private room would be nice but it really jacked up the price. The coach seats are like big lazy boys. The recline and you have endless leg room. However, you need to remember that will be your home for the next 16 or so hours. I found sleeping in these seats problematic since you really can't roll onto your side. The seats are contoured like the recliners that they are and they don't go flat. Some people can sleep soundly on their back in a recliner for long periods. I'm not one of them. You can get up a roam around but there really isn't a whole lot to see. Dinner is in a dining car. The food is "ok". If you have a family of four or so you're dining at your own table. If it's just the two of you..you're sharing a table with others. On some parts of the route there is some scenery...other parts you're traveling through scrub pine areas with not much to see. Either way, much of the route is in darkness with not much to see. Would I take it again? You bet. It still beats driving!
