Army messhall food probably tuned up my immune system. After basic I played in the band. We ate at the same mess hall as the MPs. Guess who were the KPs? The guys in the stockade! I didn't think about what was in my food which I did of course cursorily inspect. I once found the bristle from a broom used to sweep the floor. After living through that eating at Cody's would be a piece of cake.

Although I never felt handling a menu to be a particularly parlous procedure I do routinely go wash my hands after handling one and ordering. My world traveling flight surgeon friend and his wife always bring hand sanitizer and use it. I cannot remember them ever getting sick from a restaurant meal.
