I remember when it evolved. To make a sentence or express a sentiment in just 3 words is challenging. Contractions count as 1 word. I forget the constraints of a haiku or Sudoku but there is no wiggle room. When someone does hit the nail on the head in 3 words the others in the group are thinking, "That's nicely played."
