Seattle has banned plastic straws and plastic utensils effective July 1st of this year .However biodegradable straws [ paper ] and biodegradable utensils [ wooden ] are allowed .

Locals are also being encouraged to hollow out a stick and carry it with them in lieu of straws and to eat with their hands instead of using the biodegradable utensils .

The city council is also considering passing an ordinance to
ban the brushing and flossing of teeth as it uses too much water and the used flossing material is an unnecessary addition to the city's solid waste management efforts .

Meanwhile , not to be undone , the California State Legislature encouraged by Gov. Brown is expected to enact a statewide ban on the use of paper products , utensils and cups in all fast food restaurants across the Golden State . Patrons will be encouraged to fold one hand to receive a legal drink portion * in one hand while receiving their food in another .

* Under the new law any drink from a fast food establishment may not exceed 4 ounces as this has been determined by state engineers to fit into the cupped hand of the average adult citizen . Children may use both hands to receive a drink up to the age of 12 .
