In regard to the house situation, I can not see my way to buying another house that is a whopper. Nothing can stop us from being modest in the home stretch of life. We already have had the thrill of a grand house's.....what a bunch of bull. Our goal is to be busy and home as little as possible. At our age does it matter what anyone thinks about where you live? I think not. The more room we have the more people who will visit at the same time. I would rather spread out the visitor and enjoy the company of each fully. We feel like the Pied Pippers of N.J.
I understand others are accustomed to lots of room and wish to keep it that way in retirement. I don't judge them it is just not for us.

You're post sounds like me. I can't wait to unload this big house up north. I just don't enjoy it anymore. It's a lot of work and has become more of a burden and a worry as we get older. Having a smaller pad gives you so much more freedom. NOTHING like freedom from stuff that is not very meaningful in the stream of life. Our biggest concern is garage space, but we'll just have to see how that works out.
I love what you say about time spent with other people - so true!
