After over a dozen visits to the islands, including Lanai and Molokai...Kauai is still my favorite.
Maui being second...now that I play golf.
I like Kauai even after a very inauspicious first trip, of having someone throw a rock through the back window of our rental car while at the slippery slide parking lot...and stealing all of our money and identification. My wife's purse and my wallet were well hidden under the front seats, but the police surmised that they were in the jungle watching us and noticed that we didn't open the trunk. Of which, he said even tourists that did put their stuff in the trunk...had been ripped off.
'In those days,' only having $.32 to your name without being able to even prove your name...was no fun.
Which just added to an already crappy day, given that while on the beach earlier we heard on the radio...that Elvis had died.
