Most of us here lived thru this Teddy episode. The movie - Jason Clarke was spot-on. And Bruce Dern playing Joe Kennedy-the old man was scary and no doubt spot-on as well.
A (supposedly) true backstory of powerful and corrupt politicians, cops and judges all backed up Teddy's involvement and skating thru with a wrist-slap instead of manslaughter. He successfully used his family connections to get special treatment from the criminal justice system.
I must say, I was so angered during the last half of the film by all the dirty backroom planning to ensure the truth does not arise and that the Kennedy's youngest son remains in the Senate and hopefully regain credibility to run for president. All the uncouth political games.
Yet another reason why politics is such a dirty game and that many of us in the public are viewed as simply a voter that can be gotten by messaging and unvarnished lies. I left the theater feeling dirty that matters as that could possibly happen...and no doubt so many more to this day. And wondering what type of films as this may come out 20 years from now about our recent past and current political events...
