Velcro if you look at it is nylon hooks that catches a fabric material. I looses holding power as it is used and as it gets dirty. Also, it is held in place with a contact adhesive. I expect the adhesive also looses holding power over time and in heat.
I hope there are better solutions.

'Velcro,' (like
'Kleenex' for
'facial tissues') is simply just a name brand...for the
'hook & loop' fastening system.
As JoelJohnson describes though, I'm sure that if the 'hook & loop' attachment he's chosen wears out...it's pretty simple to replace it.
So I'll stand by Tomwed's description of...
"Brilliant."
