Up north HB and I were named 'king and queen of yard sales.' Not only do we go out every weekend there AND here, we also either participate in community sales or hold our own yard sales for the purpose of fundraising, our own usually for the Revlon Walk/Run for Cancer (in memory of a close childhood friend). My TOTV pic comes from a community event that's a fundraiser for the public library and the volunteer fire department and rescue squad (though not a yard sale per se).
I agree that the consignment shops are good to look at to get ideas; there's another one in Ocala in the same strip mall as Staples; but it's true that their prices are too high. We did a good bit of our furnishing by shopping on
www.orlando.craigslist.org and
www.ocala.craigslist.org. Not only did we find fabulous furnishings and accessories at awesome prices (MUCH better than at the consignment shops), craigslist now has a 'garage sale' category to find those advertised that are not in the local papers. A great resource!
