They are called re-positioning cruises. The ship I was on was on it's final voyage before being reconditioned in Venice. The rate was $650 p/p for an inside cabin. I bumped it up to a balcony for another $400 p/p. I had no idea what to expect. It was great and we stopped at Malaga, Barcelona, Pisa, the port city of Rome that begins with a C and ended in Venice. After another 7 days on trains and in hotels we flew home from Rome. [thank-you Rick Steves for telling me where to stay and where to eat]
