I agree with coldnomore. I have chronic pain also, I would add that water walking is an excellent way to combat chronic pain. I would suggest you use the sports pools, look in rec news for combo swim or open exercise times. It's wonderful and can be social if you want, there are always other people walking. I also do Tai Chi and Qigong, both excellent for people dealing with chronic pain. Mediatation too is excellent.
To me, all of the above are way better than pain medication and/or talking about it.
