I don't know them personally so can't say for sure, but in my opinion it always was and is now all about power...for both of them.

Could it be that she only kept him around cause it might help her get the nomination and now that, that's not happening she can be honest about her disgust for him? Don't know. Can't say. But it sorta looks that way.
