I had a problem with one of my smoke detectors and did a lot of research trying to figure out what was wrong. I did come across the need to replace older detectors as they wear out. Never would have realized this if I did not have a problem with my detector. Check your manufacture for the time frame. I think it might be between 7 and 10 years.
