Munroe Regional Medical Center has a new operator and a new name. Just after midnight (Aug. 1) the deal to transfer the operating lease of the hospital from Community Heath Systems to Adventist Health System closed.
The 425-bed hospital off of Southwest First Avenue is now Florida Hospital Ocala, becoming the 28th hospital in the Florida Hospital network.
While the hospital remains the property of Marion County, the lease to operate it now belongs to Adventist. Community Health Systems took on the lease in 2014, but is in financial straits and is selling off many of its properties.
