I have met a few Villagers that lived in Hawaii. That was one of my Dad's choices when he was being transferred and promoted in 1970 from Milwaukee, WI. Reno, Nevada or Honolulu. Since he was in an ARMY M.A.S.H. Unit headed to Korea in 1953 he did not want Hawaii as he had been stationed there for a while before they shipped him to Korea after the peace agreement.
I still have not got to Hawaii. My Dad used to cover the insurance claims for massive catastrophes for a major insurance carrier, so he got to Hawaii whenever nature forced him to manage a lot of claim adjusters. Florida too with Hurricane Andrew.
