When I read the school information sent home on the first day of instruction and saw the section on "corporal punishment" which included that discipline may include it as needed, I sent a note to the principal that under no circumstances was any teacher or principal to ever strike my child. If a behavior was a problem that the school thought merited "corporal punishment" I was to be called, I would come and decide what if any punishment was to be given by me.
I received a reply from the principal that in all his years I was the first parent ever to respond to the corporal punishment directives and that he totally agreed with me and had never allowed any corporal punishment in his school. Great principal and great principle.
