Yes, politicians have a right (and even a duty) to fire those who don't support them but it seems Palin carries it to extremes. At least twice that I know of she has been questioned about her right to dismiss certain government employees -- once she was vindicated in that she had the legal right but some still question the moral right of her actions, the other she is under indictment at this time. That is a little more than putting in your crew. Actually, I think Rice would be a great choice for either side as Secretary of State (and I stated as no big fan of her).
As to the book banning issue. Just the idea that she would raise the question is a concern to me. And I still have a copy of my Little Black Sambo from my childhood. And it is a racist book but not in the sense most Americans think it is. Sambo was a member of the outcasts, so making him appear clever was pretty much a slap in the face to many Hindi.
And if you read what I said, I didn't deny that the rumors could have started with the Dems, I just said the first time I heard any of the rumors was by Republicans.
