If you were in S. Florida then shutters are required on all new home sales. My last home came with steel shudders and it took me almost all day to install. I later replaced my biggest and heaviest shutters with accordion shutters but then moved here before having to use them. Since here I'm taking a chance without shutters since we are in a much less likely spot to have strong hurricanes. I haven't seen ads on shutters here which are common in W. Palm Beach and south. The biggest thing about shutters is to protect a window from being broken by flying debris which can let the wind in and lift the roof.
