a nothing story
About five years into my parents retirement I was talking on the phone and my mom told me that my father was upset because he spent all day working in the garage and got nothing accomplished. A feeling I know all too well. My dad was one of those guys that has to get the car in the garage every night. It was a one car garage and he would pull it out in the morning and then the next hour was spent setting up portable work benches, a drill press got pulled out of nowhere, a lathe dropped down from the ceiling in a way Mr Gadget would have envied. Of course at the end of the day everything was reversed. Anyway my Dad was upset and my mother, Marge told him "Jack, you are retired, you have nothing you have to do and all day to do it. Why get upset?"
Great advice but I know just what my dad was feeling. That's how we are built.
