I can tell you my experience with a palm tree. It belongs to my neighbor, and overhangs my driveway. It has large berry pods that drop hundreds of purple staining berries on my driveway for much of the year. I now remove the pods myself every year with a pole trimmer, which is a tough job. The tree has to be trimmed of those large wooden fronds that grow and dry out every year, and fly off in a big wind (doesn't need to be a hurricane), those fronds will land on your house or car. They weigh a couple pounds each. If you don't have a chain saw on a pole you will probably have to hire someone to trim them. Also, I have seen the roaches that flee the tree after trimming, looking for another place to live. Our courtyard villa neighborhood is now over twenty years old, and many owners have had their palms removed permanently. I've never known a resident who replace a palm with another one.
