This may be a twist on your question, but you should not retire if you NEED a mortgage. Keep working and pay off all your debt before you retire, it will make retirement much easier and less stressful. That said, you can rent a house in TV for July, August, and Sept Fairly Cheaply. I have 2 rental designer homes in Fernandina and Hillsborough that I would rent you for $1300 a month all in for each of those months. It gives you a chance to get to know the area. However, if you just buy, it is hard to go wrong in TV..

As for buying a place now and not close until July, the only people who would do that have Rentals. I would do that if I was looking to sell so I could extract the high season rents before selling....
