Exactly!
If one wants to differentiate entertainment from necessities like police and transportation, should businesses like movie theaters and bowling alleys also be closed?
Furthermore, should retail businesses be closed for all national holidays? If not, why is Thanksgiving different? It's not specifically a religious holiday.
It wouldn't occur to me to feel sympathy for retail employees working on Thanksgiving beyond what I might feel for them on any other day (which is kind of a lot tbh, but that's my own aversion to customer service positions).
