And don't you think that having this kind of discussion about it would be more meaningful than taking them down? People need to discuss these issues and not just sweep them under the rug. This should be the stuff in history curriculums. They were great men who fought for things they thought were right at the time but history has proved them wrong and the statues were put up for the wrong reasons. I believe it is always worth discussing discrimination/racism/bigotry/misogyny/xenophobia/bullying/attempted intimidation/etc., etc.
I also believe the discussion can be had, without looking at a monument that was solely built...to celebrate them.
